Lukashenko commands army to do everything to protect country's sovereignty

BREST, 22 June (BelTA) - The priority task of the army in the current situation is to protect the Fatherland, to maintain stability and accord in society, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he visited the 38th Brest Independent Guards Air Assault Brigade on 22 June, BelTA has learned.

“In the current situation, the task of the army and special operations forces is primarily to protect the Fatherland, to maintain stability and accord in the society. Here's my order to you. Do everything possible to protect the sovereignty and ensure the security of our state. We should not live under the oppression or wear straw shoes, as I often say, again,” the president said.

The head of state said that the servicemen attending the meeting continue the traditions of the glory-covered brigade. For example, it was the first to be deployed in Afghanistan when the war started there. “They did not say or think: “This is not our war.” They followed the order. For us, they are examples of courage and fortitude,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

“You are the military elite of our country and must meet the criteria of this elite. You have showed your high professional skills many times during various exercises. You defeated the military from the richest countries during the exercises or stood equal as in the Tank Biathlon. For the time being we go second in the Tank Biathlon. We need to move to the first one,” the president said.

“As President, I would like you to remain an example of honest performance of your duties, to contribute to the strengthening of the authority and prestige of the Armed Forces,” the head of state stressed.
