MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) – The possible deployment of intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles in Ukraine is a catastrophe. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as he met with representatives of the general public and expert community, Belarusian and foreign mass media on 1 March, BelTA has learned.
“If such missiles were deployed in Ukraine, it would be a catastrophe,” Alexander Lukashenko said. “You have to understand that Russians will not allow these missiles to be deployed over there. We will absolutely support Russians on this. This is why Ukraine must in no shape or form take steps in this direction.”
It is not the first time Alexander Lukashenko has expressed his concerns about the possible deployment of intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles in Europe. As the head of state he is primarily worried about what effect the deployment of such missiles may have on Belarus. “I wouldn't like some catastrophe to happen in old Europe, god forbid, a nuclear one,” he said.
