MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – Moldova President Igor Dodon often refers to the Belarus president's attitude to the coronavirus situation as an example. The Moldovan head of state made the relevant statement during a videoconference meeting of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Moldova President Igor Dodon on 4 May, BelTA has learned.
Igor Dodon said: “I rather often cite your attitude to the coronavirus situation and how you are fighting this pandemic. Nobody understands the situation in Belarus better than you do. This is why various clever fellows, who tend to give advice, should better look at what is going on in their own countries. I am convinced you will be able to defeat the pandemic and so will we.”
Igor Dodon said that 4,121 coronavirus cases have been registered in Moldova so far. Some 1,500 people have already recovered and 128 citizens have died. “But we introduced some restrictions back on 15 March. Certainly, it was a powerful blow to the economy and the social life. The restrictions in Moldova will expire on 15 May and it is unlikely we will extend them,” the Moldovan leader stated.
Speaking about Victory Day celebrations, Igor Dodon noted that usually no army parades take place in Moldova on this day. “Because we don't have such serious Armed Forces of our own. We haven't been developing them recently. But we've been conducting the Immortal Regiment campaign every year. Taking into account the pandemic, it will pose additional risks. We've decided we will go ahead with all the celebrations except for the Immortal Regiment campaign,” the Moldova president said.
