MOSCOW, 2 September (BelTA) - The OSCE has failed to fulfill its commitments to election observation in Belarus, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov told the media after the meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Vladimir Makei in Moscow on 2 September, BelTA has learned.

"Doubtful ideas about mediation are being imposed on the country, people and leadership of Belarus, including through the OSCE, which itself is experiencing a profound crisis and needs reforms. It has also turned to be unable to fulfill its commitments to secure international observation of the presidential election in Belarus,” said Sergei Lavrov.

The Russian minister stated that the joint initiative of Russia, Belarus and other CIS countries has been in the work for more than 12 years. “Western partners do not want to deal with this issue. I think that taking into account all the recent events, as well as the crisis that has affected all the OSCE institutions without exception, it will be impossible to get away from such a conversation this time,” he said.
