MINSK, 4 February (BelTA) – It is in the interests of Belarus and Lithuania to maintain dialogue and develop mutually beneficial cooperation, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media after his meeting with Lithuania's Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevicius in Minsk on 4 February, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus and Lithuania are not just neighbors. They share centuries-long history. We can interpret it differently but one thing is clear: we lived as one state, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, for centuries. The two countries enjoy close economic, humanitarian and inter-human contacts. The capitals of the two countries are just 180km apart. I am confident that it is in the interests of both the states to keep the dialogue going and develop mutually beneficial cooperation for the good of our people,” Vladimir Makei said.

Unfortunately, the official contacts between the two states have not been active enough, the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs added.
