MOSCOW, 12 June (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Vladimir Semashko has talked to newly appointed Ambassador of Lithuania to Russia Eitvydas Bajarunas to discuss the opening of borders for citizens to travel, the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, and other things. The videoconference meeting was arranged upon the initiative of the Lithuanian side, the press service of the Belarusian embassy in Russia told BelTA.
Vladimir Semashko and Eitvydas Bajarunas discussed the epidemic situation in Belarus, Lithuania, and neighboring countries and the related matter of reopening the borders for citizen travels.
Opinions about topical items on the bilateral agenda were exchanged. Vladimir Semashko and Eitvydas Bajarunas stressed the interest in stepping up mutual trade, invigorating investment, trade, and economic cooperation. Vladimir Semashko pointed out advantages of doing business in Belarus, in particular, in free economic zones and the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone, which offers unique space with the most favorable investment climate possible.
As part of the discussion about the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant the Belarusian side presented a number of arguments to prove the implicit importance of the nuclear power plant for Belarus' energy security. It was stressed that the toughest nuclear safety standards, which have been recognized at the international level, are utilized in the course of building the nuclear power plant. The sides agreed there is a great potential for cooperation in the spheres of culture, education, and science taking into account the historical and cultural affinity of the Belarusian nation and the Lithuanian one.
Vladimir Semashko and Eitvydas Bajarunas expressed mutual interest in continued contacts at various levels between the diplomatic missions of Belarus and Lithuania in Russia.
