Azerbaijani president to visit Belarus for European Games opening ceremony

MINSK, 3 June (BelTA) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will visit Belarus to attend the opening ceremony of the 2nd European Games. Preparations for the forthcoming visit were discussed during a meeting between Belarus Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Belarus Latif Gandilov in Minsk on 3 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties also discussed the ways of promoting the multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries in international organizations, including within the UN system. They exchanged opinions on cooperation between Belarus and Azerbaijan within the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), including the forthcoming presidency of Azerbaijan in the Non-Aligned Movement and the NAM summit in Baku in October 2019.

The 2nd European Games in Minsk will be held under the aegis of the European Olympic Committees on 21-30 June. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 states will compete in 15 sports. The 1st edition of the European Games took place in Baku, Azerbaijan in June 2015.
