We should not split the victory in the Great Patriotic War apart but keep the memory of it whole, Russian Ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov told the media on 8 June, BelTA informs.
“We should not split the memory apart but preserve it as a whole. This is the main point. One should not take all the credit for the victory: Russians or Belarusians or Ukrainians, or someone else. We would not have won in that war if there had been no unity. We were all together in the trenches,” said Alexander Surikov.
The diplomat believes that the countries should celebrate the victory in the Great Patriotic War together and protect the memory of it. As an example, he cited the traditional parade in Russia on 9 May. According to Alexander Surikov, members of the armed forces of other states that fought in the war could march alongside Russian military. “I think it would be appropriate,” the Ambassador said.
Alexander Surikov added that Russian military take part in Belarus' Independence Day parade. This is a positive experience, he added.
