The world needs common security systems

The world needs common security systems based on the UN Charter and Helsinki Accords, Huseyn Huseynov, Director of the Department of Analysis and Strategic Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, said at the Minsk Dialogue Forum in the Belarusian capital on 7 October, BelTA learned.

Huseyn Huseynov noted that the realities of modern international relations show that it is important to recognize multilateral systems and respect international law on interconnected threats and challenges. “We need common security systems based on the UN Charter and Helsinki Accords. We need decisive measures to address potential risks that undermine the national unity and security of states," he said.

“We are living a period of dramatic change," Huseyn Huseynov continued. “The rules of the Cold War period have already gone. States and individuals have been left with devastating weapons and are dealing with the serious problems to create a world based on respect for the law and tolerance of one another.”

The Minsk Dialogue Forum "European Security: Stepping Back from the Brink" opened in the Belarusian capital on 7 October. Participating in the two-day event are high-level officials, former politicians with international experience, and academic experts.

The Minsk Dialogue was launched as an expert initiative in early 2015. It offers an open platform for research and discussion about international relations and security in Eastern Europe without geopolitical dividing lines. Minsk Dialogue events regularly gather international experts as well as high-ranking state figures and diplomats.
