The solid political basis enables Belarus and Cuba to develop economic cooperation, Belarusian Ambassador to Cuba Aleksandr Aleksandrov told the media, BelTA has learned.
“The similarity of our positions on many issues of the international agenda, the solid political basis enable us to develop economic ties,” he stressed. "From the point of view of economic development, there are serious difficulties and problems due to the sanctions. In any case Cuba remains one of our main strategic partners in the Latin American region,” Aleksandr Aleksandrov noted.
The two countries have maintained good relations since the Soviet Union. “We have not stopped this cooperation, but on the contrary, strengthened and developed it. Although it is not quite right to talk about specific trade figures otoday. The blockade that Cuba is experiencing is hampering both trade and foreign exchange earnings,” the diplomat noted.
According to the head of the diplomatic mission, Belarusian vehicles are well known in Cuba: MAZ and BelAZ trucks, Belarus tractors. “They are very interested in our approaches to the development of the agricultural industry. They want to use this experience as a basis for the development of their agricultural sector, making the use of farm machines from Belarus,” the ambassador said. "We are interested in their advances in the field of medicines. Plans are in place to organize joint ventures to assemble household appliances,” he added.
