The situation with Russia's criticism in respect to Belarusian goods is stepping out of the Union State partnership principles, Georgy Grits, Deputy Director of the Center of System-Based Analysis and Strategic Research at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, said in an interview to the Belarus One TV channel.
“The situation with so-called trade wars has already gone beyond the scope of the Union State relationship principles and also the principles of reasonableness,” said Georgy Grits.
In his words, a few years ago Belarus faced accusations that its deliveries infringed the rights of Russian producers. Quotas were introduced to address the issue. New accusations concerned dumping from the Belarusian side. To settle the dispute it was decided to supply goods to Russia via the Belarusian Commodity Exchange. “The next matter to arise is so-called sanitary and epidemic certificates,” the expert noted.
Georgy Grits stressed that big money was invested in Belarusian food companies. “Should we sell our products that are among the country's top five export positions for a penny? Something is not right here. I think whether we are allies within the Union State, the Eurasian Economic Space, or, perhaps, we need to make a pause in our integration. The Russian side should decide whether it needs such relations or not,” Georgy Grits added.
