The news agencies should strengthen the international cooperation in the face of today's challenges, First Deputy Director General of the Russian news agency TASS Mikhail Gusman told journalists during the 24th meeting of the CIS Mass Media Heads Council (CIS Information Council) in Minsk on 19 April.
Mikhail Gusman stressed the great role of the state-owned media in the context of modern challenges and the spread of fake news. “The professional reputation depends on the professionalism of journalists. It is important that the information should be reliable. People listen to us,” he said.
The role of mass media in today's world of information warfare is especially significant. “Our opponents in the information space have been dangerously active. Some forces are trying to sow discord between our nations. This applies to many fields: politics, economy, and others. In this regard, the role of international cooperation is becoming very important,” Mikhail Gusman said. TASS and BelTA have been cooperating for many years, Mikhail Gusman noted.
