The government's job is to support and protect the private sector. Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich made the statement during the solemn ceremony held on 18 November to award the best businesspersons of the year, BelTA has learned.

The head of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament said: “I believe that the organization of a national contest to highlight the best entrepreneurs is a very good idea. I would like to wish them new ideas and new accomplishments. Supporting and protecting the private sector is the government's job.”

In his words, he was happy to accept the invitation to take part in the award ceremony. “Smart and strong people determine progress. The country needs creative people like those, who are present here, and there are many people like that in Belarus. Your huge and remarkable contribution to the development of the economy indicates it,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich.

Mikhail Myasnikovich presented awards to the winners of the national contest Entrepreneur of the Year in the nomination Successful Start.

The national contest Entrepreneur of the Year was first organized in 2016. In essence it is the contest Entrepreneur of the Year, which was held annually in 1997-2013, and has been remodeled since. The number and the titles of nominations have been changed, the procedure for organizing the contest has been adjusted. The systems used to evaluate and incentivize winners have been reworked. The steps are meant to update the contest and bolster its popularity in addition to making its procedures transparent. This year's contest was arranged for representatives of small and medium companies where the state share in the charter capital does not exceed 50%.
