The ordinance on digital economy will add a new impetus to the development of Belarus' real economy , Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FTUB) Mikhail Orda said at a meeting with the regional media on 31 January, BelTA learned from the press service of the FTUB.
“Digital economy is much more than just the IT sector today. Ordinance No. 8, the creation of fundamentally new conditions for the development of most advanced technologies will have a direct impact on the entire production and labor sector and give a new impetus to industrial development and the real economy sector in general. New technologies mean new manufacturing facilities, new innovative products, and higher productivity,” said Mikhail Orda.
We need a comprehensive analysis of all risks associated with the transition to the digital economy. First of all, it is about the relevance of many professions and skills development, Mikhail Orda noted.
Employees in all sectors should be prepared to work with new technologies, Mikhail Orda said. The trade unions have highlighted this issue on numerous occasions. Every employee, regardless of age and profession, needs to regularly improve the skills and acquire new knowledge. “Every employer must understand: if he does not invest in the education and professional development of his employees, his company, in fact, has no future,” Mikhail Orda noted.
In this regard, a serious reflection on the whole education system is needed. There is a need to develop the requirements for basic competencies in the digital economy for each level of education and incorporate them into the education system. The system for awarding and assessing the qualifications needs upgrading too. “Our social partners concur with this position. Relevant ministries and departments are working jointly with trade unions on these complex and topical issues,” Mikhail Orda said.
