The CIS has a big untapped potential

The CIS has a big untapped potential, Sergei Musiyenko, Head of EcooM Analytical Center, told BelTA as he commented on the results of the CIS summit in Bishkek.

The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is part of the world's political and economic system. The CIS is internationally recognized, the expert noted. The CIS has promoted integration in economy and security. “The Commonwealth is still has an untapped potential. This form of cooperation between the post-Soviet countries should be maintained and further improved,” Sergei Musiyenko is confident. Big hopes are laid on the fulfillment of the organization's potential during Russia's presidency in the CIS next year.

The CIS experience and practices should not be lost, Sergei Musiyenko added. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko emphasized this at the Bishkek summit. The CIS has a strong legal framework in the customs, transport and other areas. Losing it, the people of the CIS would have faced a big number of problems which they do not even know about thanks to the CIS existence, the expert is confident. Here, Sergei Musiyenko mentioned the countries of the former Yugoslavia that often envy the CIS states which authorities have such an efficient negotiating platform.
