The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development unites all the countries for the sake of a better future of the planet. The statement was made by Ambassador of Germany to Belarus Peter Dettmar during the regional conference on sustainable development in Minsk on 6 June, BelTA has learned.
Peter Dettmar said: “The sustainable development goals unite not only Belarus and Germany. They represent an element that binds together all the countries of the world. The SDGs determine how the mankind will develop in various spheres: economy, ecology, production sector, and education.”
As an example the ambassador mentioned that the world is now facing the consequences of an uncoordinated policy on climate change. Extreme weather phenomena are registered across the globe, including in Europe, but the environmental factor has become central to various national programs only recently.
“In order to resolve the emerging goal conflicts, every country needs political will to implement the SDGs as well as reliable and comprehensive databases,” stressed the ambassador. “We need an integral approach, which will be reflected in the legislation and budgets of countries, an approach which will involve all citizens, coordinate actions, and enable experience exchange for all partners at the regional, national, and global levels.”
In September 2015 UN member states passed the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It contains 17 goals designed to eliminate poverty, preserve the planet's resources, and enable prosperity for all.
The regional conference Strategies and Partnership for Reaching the SDGs is scheduled to take place in the Johannes Rau International Center for Education and Exchange in Minsk (IBB Minsk) on 6-7 June. Taking part in the event are 270 people representing government agencies, the private sector, public organizations and initiatives from Belarus and Germany, and international organizations.
