The role of science is to develop innovative projects for further application, Brest Oblast Governor Anatoly Lis told BelTA as he commented on the declaration of the Year of Science in Belarus.
“The innovation fund of the oblast executive committee injects resources in the scientific sector on an annual basis, first of all, for the development of innovative projects. We are very much interested in them. Why Year of Science? Because we need to move forward from the innovational point of view. This is what manufacturing needs today. The role of science is in introducing something new. The main thing, as I see the work of scientists, is that their research should find application. They need not just invent something, but introduce it into production in order to bring benefits,” the Brest Oblast Governor said.
According to the governor, Brest Oblast has a solid scientific potential. Apart from four universities, Brest Oblast is also home to a variety of research, design and R&D institutions. “We need to develop cooperation with our scientists, people involved in scientific development in various fields. As for healthcare, for example, it is great to see our surgeons perform operations at national scientific practical centers,” noted Anatoly Lis.
He also pointed out to a close connection between science and history. “We are gearing up to celebrate the 1,000th birthday of Brest. A lot is to be done, including in a historical sense. There are a lot of areas that need exploration from an academic perspective. Attempts have been recently made to present small historical events that took place in Brest Oblast as something exceptional, while forgetting about, or intentionally lowering the importance of really big events. Certain steps should be made to set things right,” the governor said.
