The parties to the conflict in Ukraine are emotionally unprepared for reconciliation, head of the board of the Center of Applied Political Studies Penta Vladimir Fesenko said when speaking at the international conference “One Year of Minsk-II Accords: Achievements, Challenges, Lessons Learned” on 11 February, BelTA informs.
“The parties on either side of the conflict, including not only politicians but also a considerable part of the population, are not ready for reconciliation, both emotionally and psychologically. According to the polls conducted in Ukraine, up to 40% of the population is not ready to reconcile with the separatists. It will take time,” said Vladimir Fesenko.
The expert believes that only with complete ceasefire there is a chance to make peace and resolve the conflict at the political level. “The talks continue, with no result yet. The parties are convinced that all the commitments should be observed, but they fail to implement them in full. This is why the talks remain in limbo,” the political analyst said.
Vladimir Fesenko also stressed that Ukraine is still totally against the reintegration of the self-proclaimed republics of DNR and LNR. “Hence the situation remains deadlocked,” he added.
