New parliament should focus on reforming Belarusian society

The new parliament should pay due attention to reforming the Belarusian society, member of the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament, Andrei Savinykh told reporters, BelTA has learned.

The MP shared expectations of the forthcoming meeting with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko. “We need to compare notes. The head of state will put forward strategic development guidelines. Our task is to follow them. We need to speed up development and modernization of the society. This pertains to economy and social sphere, in particular, education and healthcare,” he said.

The MP is convinced that bills put forward by legislators should have an adequate level of support by the public. “This means that MPs should pay more attention to a dialogue with people, public associations and the civil society. Any law, any issue the parliament is working on should be subject to public scrutiny and debate,” Andrei Savinykh believes. He is convinced that the parliament can become a platform to discuss strategic development goals. Now this function of the parliament is underutilized.
