We need to pay special attention to the promotion of theater art, Belarus' First Deputy Culture Minister Irina Driga said at the meeting of the main department for ideology, culture, and youth affairs of the Minsk City Hall on 10 February.
“Despite the growing number of performances, the number of visitors has decreased. Such tendency is observed all over the country. Theaters need assistance in promotion, among the younger Belarusians too,”Irina Driga noted.
She thanked the Minsk City Hall for an innovative approach to holding the events of the Year of Culture, for interesting initiatives and projects, including the ones held in the Upper Town. “Such work should be continued to make the cultural life of Minsk match its capital status,” Irina Driga believes.
The theater attendance exceeded 600,000 in Minsk in 2016, said Pavel Skalaban, the head of the main department for ideology, culture and youth affairs of the Minsk City Hall. The theater occupancy rate was 81%, 20 new plays were produced. The state agency Minskconcert held nearly 400 cultural events.
