Measures to invigorate the Belarusian private sector in order

One should expect additional measures meant to invigorate the private sector. Professor Mikhail Kovalev, Dean of the Economics Faculty of the Belarusian State University, made the statement as he commented on the New Year address by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Kovalev noted that in his laconic address Alexander Lukashenko touched upon key economic problems of the country. The head of state was solidly convinced that the year 2017 will see a turnaround and the three-year-long economic recession will be over. “The president clearly stated that only wonders of our own making will be possible, only selfless work in enterprises and the crop fields will be able to secure an economic kick that will get the country out of this stagnation at last,” noted Mikhail Kovalev.

Once again Alexander Lukashenko reminded about the priorities set by the fifth Belarusian People's Congress: investments, employment, informatization, and youth. According to Mikhail Kovalev, everything is fine with state investments in Belarus. Towns and cities are being renewed, roads are being built. Foreign guests have been known to remark more than once that motorways in Belarus are at least as good as motorways in Germany while the general cleanliness in the country is on par with Czechia and Bavaria. And it is true.

“But then there are problems with the activity of the private sector, with encouraging the private sector to contribute more to the creation of new jobs. This is why one should expect that, just like the president promised, some additional measures will be taken to invigorate the private sector, to reduce pressure on private enterprises and the number of audits they are subjected to,” said Mikhail Kovalev. “We may adopt the strategy of creating innovative business incubators for every state-run enterprise with excessive workforce… In the Year of Science private enterprises operating in the orbit of the state sector may generate new ideas, proposals, innovations that will advance our technology and make our products more competitive on foreign markets.” The Hi-Tech Park has secured great accomplishments in the area of innovations. “We should advance as decisively in other spheres, too,” said Mikhail Kovalev.

Mikhail Kovalev also spoke about young Belarusians as a priority set by the fifth Belarusian People's Congress. According to the expert, the current generation of young Belarusians was born into the sovereign Belarus, they support Alexander Lukashenko, and the head of state would like young Belarusians to play a more prominent role in the life of the society. He would like their talents and skills to advance the country faster.

The combination of all these factors will secure high revenues of individuals in Belarus as early as this year, stressed the Dean of the Economics Faculty of the Belarusian State University.
