The recent tough resolution of the Lithuanian Seimas on the Belarusian nuclear power plant is not in keeping with the spirit of good-neighborliness, said Vitaly Busko, the chairman of the permanent commission for international affairs of the House of Representatives.
“We understand that all the political forces in Lithuania are gearing up for the parliamentary elections in October. Unfortunately the Belarusian card, including the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, is played out in the same context. Whatever the reason behind the resolution, either political or economic ones, we consider it counterproductive and not in keeping with the spirit of good-neighborly cooperation. Such steps will surely have a negative impact on our bilateral relations,” the MP said.
Vitaly Busko added that at different levels Belarus has repeatedly communicated the information to the Lithuanian partners about the nuclear plant project. Belarus has expressed willingness to engage in discussion of any project-related issue. “This commitment remains valid. Once again we emphasize our openness to dialogue, including through the consultations of experts due next month,” Vitaly Busko noted.
