Fake news must be countered by objective and truthful journalism, Belarus' Information Minister Aleksandr Karlukevich said at a meeting of the board of the ministry, BelTA has learned.

"We can and must fight off fake news with objective, truthful journalism. This is the basis of the country's information security," the minister said.

Counter-narrative work against destructive mass media was enhanced I the country in 2019. Belarus 1 TV channel's Editors Club program became the central platform for disproving fake news. The ONT channel launched the Anti-fake project. The minister lauded the active work of BelTA and the SB Belarus Segodnya [Belarus Today].

In addition, Belarus has restricted access to internet resources that posted inappropriate advertisements, information on drug sales, propaganda of pornography, violence and published extremist materials.
