Economic development goals should be aligned with ideological values

The greatest task facing the Belarusian government and society today is to properly align the economic development objectives with the traditional ideological values, Doctoral Candidate in Philosophy Nikolai Shchekin said.

“The main problem of the modern society is not about the economy as such but about the preservation of the ideological and spiritual values in the face of emerging economic challenges. I think that the participants of the 5th Belarusian People's Congress should bear this in mind when shaping the strategy for the country's development,” the academic said.

Nikolai Shchekin pointed out that economic growth should, first of all, generate considerable investment in human capital in order to raise the quality of life and ensure that the Belarusian society keeps up with the innovative trends of the 21st century. “The People's Congress will outline new opportunities. It will enable a practice-oriented dialogue between the government and people. The forum will surely discuss how to balance the interests of the state and the people. Special attention will be paid to state government bodies which should become, figuratively speaking, the brain and muscles of our economy. Besides, it is time to talk about the responsibility of businesses towards society and the importance of public-private partnership,” the expert added.

“Today every citizen should be state-minded. That is, he should care about the country's future and be ready to make decisions,” Nikolai Shchekin stressed.
