Belarusian MPs should maintain active internet presence

The MPs should keep up with the times, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said in an interview to the Belarus 1 TV channel on 16 September, BelTA has learned.

“It is obvious that the MPs should meet the needs of the times, and should have blogs and accounts. Today, this is a practice already followed by the House of Representatives. Many MPs have their own blogs,” said Vladimir Andreichenko.

He also noted that the House of Representatives' website hosts public discussions of bills. This is a relatively recent feature on the website. “We have been harnessing new technologies. The more people participate in public discussions of bills, the better it is. We do not limit law-making activities to standing commissions but also involve the public to be part of this process. The law is harsh, but it is the Law. And it applies to everybody: the government and citizens,” said Vladimir Andreichenko.
