Accuracy and objectivity of information particularly relevant in digital age

Accurate and objective information is of particular relevance in the age of the rapid ICT advancement, Director General of the Azerbaijan state news agency AZERTAC Aslan Aslanov said at the 5th News Agencies World Congress, BelTA has learned.

“The 21st century is an absolutely new epoch for the humankind. Today people often fail to keep up with the new technologies, which have made part and parcel of our lives and continue evolving. Like other sectors, journalism is going through fast transformation; new notions and phenomena appear. This changes the global information landscape, leaves its impact on the humankind and all areas of life. Hot topical news is in high demand today. Meanwhile news agencies should do their best to stay committed to the main principle of their work, which is to produce accurate, objective, true and timely information,” Aslan Aslanov stressed.

Participants in the 5th News Agencies World Congress in Baku will discuss a wide range of issues, including the readiness of the modern society to new challenges emerging en masse, including through new technologies. The forum will also highlight issues relating to the search for new sources of funding for news agencies, and also cooperation between mass media and social media.

The delegates emphasized that there is a growing need for reliable sources of information, a huge influence of advertising on the form, content and presentation of news, and the growing importance of such trends as briefness, visuality, mobility and the use of verified materials.
