The new 41.1km long section of the second Minsk ring road (MKAD-2) is now open to traffic. It connects the M6/E28 Minsk-Grodno-Polish border motorway and the M1/E30 Brest – Minsk – the Russian border motorway. Thus, the entire length of the second Minsk ring road is open to traffic.
New roads represent as much as 88km of the total length while existing motorways make up 72km of the second Minsk ring road:
M1/E30 Brest – Minsk – the Russian border (48km);
M2 Minsk — Minsk National Airport (10km);
P80 Sloboda — Papernya (14km).
MKAD-2 parameters:
length — about 160km;
width — 22.7m;
four traffic lanes (two in each direction);
dividing strip – 2.7m;
designed speed — 120kmph;
expected traffic — 11,300-24,300 vehicles per day;
parts of the road, which are close to residential buildings, are fitted with sound barriers.
There are plans to open over 30 motorway service outlets, including refueling stations, vehicle service stations, and shops, along MKAD-2.
The purpose of the project is to reduce transit vehicle traffic in Minsk and improve the city's environmental situation.
