Renewable Energy Sources in Belarus

Renewable energy sources (RES) account for 5.7% of the total fuel and energy consumption in Belarus in 2016. The figure is projected to reach 6% by 2018.

RES in Belarus:

68 windmills

59 hydroelectric power plants

35 biogas plants

101 photovoltaic power stations accumulating solar energy

25 ground source heat pumps using geothermal energy

387 plants using wood fuel and biomass

Today, the RES plants in Belarus are able to generate up to 1.2 billion kWh per year using:

wood fuel and other biomass fuels - 404.6 million kWh

biogas energy - 302.6 million kWh

energy of the flowing water - 209.2 million kWh

wind energy - 172.9 million kWh

solar energy - 94.4 million kWh
