Ice Hockey in Belarus

With 5,400 registered ice hockey players, Belarus ranks 19th in the world:

1. Canada – 639,500

2. United States – 543,200

3. Czechia – 109,100

4. Russia – 102,200

5. Finland – 74,100

6. Sweden – 60,400

A total of 5,444 young athletes were enrolled in 25 ice hockey educational and sports facilities in Belarus (as of early 2017).

There are 38 indoor ice arenas (venues) in Belarus 15th place in the world:

1. Canada – 3,250

2. United States – 1,800

3. Russia - 550

4. Sweden - 358

5. Finland - 263

6. Germany - 209

Belarus hosts open extraliga and premier league championships (22 Belarusian teams in the 2016/2017 season), Belarusian Cup, the national junior and youth championships in 5 age groups, the national children's competitions in 3 age groups, school spartakiad, Golden Puck tournament, and international tournaments.

HC Dinamo Minsk is the base club of the national team, represents Belarus in the KHL.

Belarus' results in the world championships in 2017:

national team – 13th place

U20 national team – promoted to top division

U18 national team – 9th.
