Turkmenistan is one of Belarus' strategic partners in Central Asia. The countries established diplomatic relations on 21 January 1993.
In 2018, Belarus-Turkmenistan trade totaled $32.2 million. Belarusian export amounted to $27.6 million.

turnkey contract to build Garlyk mining and processing factory to produce potash fertilizers (the factory was inaugurated on 31 March 2017);
education services for over 8,000 students from Turkmenistan in Belarusian universities and colleges.
