Belarus Population

The population of Belarus has been growing.

As of 1 January 2013 the population was 9,464,000, including 4,398,000 men and 5,066,000 women;

As of 1 January 2014 – 9,468,000; 4,401,000 and 5,067,000

As of 1 January 2015 – 9,481,000: 4,409,000 and 5,072,000

As of 1 January 2016 – 9,498,000; 4,421,000 and 5,077,000

As of 1 January 2017 – 9,505,000; 4,427,000 and 5,078,000

Population by region:

Minsk – 1,974,800

Minsk Oblast – 1,423,000

Gomel Oblast – 1,420,600

Brest Oblast – 1,386,400

Vitebsk Oblast – 1,188,000

Mogilev Oblast – 1,064,400

Grodno Oblast – 1,047,500

The birthrate in 2016 was 12.4 per 1,000 population (12.5 in 2015).

The crude death rate remained at the same level – 12.6 per 1000 population.

The process of urbanization continues:

share of urban population reached 77.9%,

share of rural population dropped to 22.1%.
