Belarus' population totaled 9,505,200 as of 1 October 2016, up by 6,799 from the beginning of the year. In January-September 2016, 89,434 babies were born, up 455 (0.5%) as against the same period of 2015.

In January-September 2016 natural population increase was observed:
in 85 out of 113 cities,
in 27 out of 90 towns,
in rural areas of Minsk District, Brest District and Gomel District.
The number of births exceeded deaths by 4,111 in Minsk, by 1,255 people in Brest Oblast. Other regions of the country also recorded positive trends towards the reduction of the natural population losses.
