Sales of steel products via BUCE up 13% in January-May 2020

MINSK, 11 April (BelTA) – The sales of steel products via the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) went up 13%, including thanks to steel supplies of the Belarusian Steel Works, BelTA learned from spokesman for the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange Roman Yaniv.

“In January-May, 12,500 tonnes of products made of ferrous and nonferrous metals, scrap and waste worth Br20.4 million were sold via the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange. The volume of exports increased by 45% in physical terms, and by 13% in value terms,” said Roman Yaniv.

The main markets for Belarusian steel products were Canada, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. According to the BUCE a significant contribution to the export performance was made by the rebar of the Belarusian Steel Works, which has been supplied abroad through the exchange platform since December 2019. “Since the start of the year the sales of BMZ rebar for export amounted to Br2.7 million. All transactions were made by Polish companies, as this market was chosen as a priority market in accordance with the agreements between BMZ and BUCE,” said head of the department of trading in steel products at the BUCE Evgeny Bureiko.

He added that for further growth of export supplies it would be advisable to expand the geography of potential buyers, as well as the range of metal products on offer. “The first step in this direction has already been taken. In late May, we held the first trading in BMZ rebar, eyeing the Ukrainian market. We plan to organize similar trading sessions for other promising markets. I think the Belarusian Steel Works will support this initiative,” the representative of the BUCE said.

Founded in 2004, the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange conducted its first trading in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest commodity exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its main function is to assist Belarusian enterprises with exporting products and foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. BUCE sells a wide range of metal, forestry, and agricultural products, industrial and consumer goods.
