Plans to draw up agreement on organic food market in EAEU

MOSCOW, 19 August (BelTA) – Plans are in place to conclude an international agreement to set up a common market for organic agricultural products in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) told BelTA following a meeting between Member of the Board – Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture of the Eurasian Economic Commission Artak Kamalyan and Deputy Ministers of Agriculture Maksim Uveidov and Yelena Fastova of Russia.

All EAEU member states have finished developing a legal framework regulating the production and sale of such goods. “An international agreement will allow the unhindered turnover of such products on the domestic market, will help initiate negotiations on the access of producers of EAEU countries to the markets of third countries,” the EEC said.

During the meeting, Artak Kamalyan stated that the work during the coronavirus period showed the need for the EAEU states to take additional measures to develop the common agricultural market and to develop a coordinated rapid response and cooperation in order to satisfy food needs in a timely manner. He proposed to develop a comprehensive document, the implementation of which will contribute to the sustainable development of the agricultural market in the EAEU and facilitate cooperation in this area. “Yelena Fastova supported such an initiative and suggested vesting the EEC with the authority to coordinate the development and implementation of interstate documents in agricultural industry,” the press service informed.
