MINSK, 8 July (BelTA) – The export of fuel granules via the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange has been resumed, BUCE Press Secretary Roman Yaniv told BelTA.

Some 5,800 tonnes of wooden fuel granules (pellets) worth over €540,000 was sold via BUCE on 7 July. A Latvian company bought all of it. It was the first purchase since June 2019.

The resumption of the export of fuel pellets is attributed to the start of preparations for the winter season in countries of the European Union where most of the cogeneration plants burn fuel made out of waste wood. The demand for fuel pellets is expected to grow higher as winter draws near. A lot will depend on the severity of winter weather. For instance, last winter was very warm, this is why sales of fuel pellets were rather low. BUCE is ready to assist Belarusian pellet plants with exporting their products.

The public joint-stock company (OAO) Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange was established in 2004. The first trade sessions took place in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest mercantile exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its key function is to assist Belarusian companies with exporting their products and assist foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. The commodity exchange facilitates trade in metals, timber, agricultural products, and a broad choice of industrial and consumer goods.
