NOVOPOLOTSK, 23 June (BelTA) – Large enterprises have helped the economy survive in conditions of tough international competition amid the pandemic. Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko made the statement after getting familiar with the operation of OAO Neftezavodmontazh and talking to the employees on 23 June, BelTA has learned.

The MP said: “Attempts have been recently made to convince us that large industrial enterprises are a thing of the past but life has proved otherwise. In conditions of tough international competition, which became even tougher during the pandemic, the countries with a well-developed manufacturing sector survived. Neftezavodmontazh is a case in point. The company performs civil engineering and installation services. Not only in Belarus but abroad as well. The company did not enforce a total quarantine, it didn't lose its market and it preserved jobs.”

Neftezavodmontazh focuses on construction, repair, and reconstruction of petrochemical enterprises. Neftezavodmontazh specialists are working on facilities of Naftan and the Belarusian nuclear power plant, provide services in Russia and Lithuania.

While talking to Neftezavodmontazh employees, the MP talked about Belarus' social and economic development, cooperation of the Belarusian parliament with colleagues from other countries. During the meeting the workers asked questions concerning the use of the electricity the Belarusian nuclear power plant will generate, work of government agencies and the society on updating the Administrative Offences Code and the Code of Execution Procedure. The development of Novopolotsk was also mentioned. In particular, the workers were interested in plans for repairing an old bridge and building a new one across the Zapadnaya Dvina River. Novopolotsk Mayor Dmitry Demidov shared some up-to-date information. He explained that the new bridge is being designed as part of the project to reconstruct the P46 motorway. Public hearings about infrastructure changes in the city continue.

The mayor said: “The Transport and Communications Ministry has authorized building the new bridge in 2021-2023. Once the work is finished, the reconstruction of the old bridge will begin. Reconstruction is tentatively scheduled for 2024.” The financial aspect of the matter is being discussed with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

While in Novopolotsk on 23 June, the speaker of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament also visited a local water skiing training camp, talked to the management, and was made familiar with the athlete training program.
