Belarus' calibration, measurement capabilities in sphere of electricity, magnetism expanded

MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – Belarus' capabilities to measure and calibrate things in the sphere of electricity and magnetism have been expanded, the press service of the State Standardization Committee of Belarus told BelTA.

As a result of regional key comparisons performed by technical committees of the Euro-Asian Cooperation of National Metrological Institutions (COOMET) eight new entries have been added to describe Belarus' calibration and measurement capabilities in the area of electricity and magnetism.

Belarus' participation in these international comparisons ensures the fulfillment of international commitments regarding the recognition of the equivalence of standards and certificates of calibration and measurement.

Representatives of the State Standardization Committee explained that the forthcoming launch of the Belarusian nuclear power plant and the development of electric transport add relevancy to high-precision measurements of electric power and energy. This is why BelGIM (the national metrology institution) pays close attention to the development and maintenance of the national electric power unit measurement standard and to the international recognition of electric power and energy measurement results.

Matters of measurement of electromagnetic field levels, parameters of the form and spectrum of super-high-frequency radio signals are encountered daily as tasks concerning electromagnetic compatibility, protection of data from unauthorized access, radio frequency spectrum usage control, certification of workstations with harmful labor conditions, and control of electromagnetic radiation levels in populated localities need to be fulfilled.

As many as 273 entries describing Belarus' measurement and calibration capabilities can be found in the international database BIPM-KCDB.
