Signature collection queues in Minsk slammed as ‘car carousel' schemes

MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – I see the attempts to stir up tensions in the country, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he took part in a meeting in Minsk on 19 June, BelTA has learned.

“We see these people and we see their schemes. For example, those carousels during the collection of signatures, when crowds of people walked up and down the queue that stretched for a kilometer. The same people signed for all candidates but Lukashenko again and again,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. “Yesterday we saw the same carousel, but with cars that were driving around the same block (we noticed this, saw those cars that were driving around and their number plates) and honking, including in front of the building of the State Security Committee. We saw this all and we understand what is going on,” he added.

The head of state pointed out that some mass media outlets have also adopted a nonconstructive stance.

“It is the independence of the country that is at stake. Not just stability, cleanness and coziness. They just want to break the country down,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko urged not to present him with a challenge. “No one will forgive me and all of us for letting Belarus fall apart,” he stressed.
