MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – The Prosecutor General's Office was instructed to work out a set of new anti-corruption measures. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during the State of the Nation Address on 19 April, BelTA has learned.
“Upon my instruction, sessions to discuss anti-corruption efforts were held at oblast executive committees. All executives at all levels were warned. Concrete proposals to enhance responsibility in this area at all levels of administration were made. The Prosecutor General's Office should also step up efforts and work out a set of measures to eradicate reasons and conditions leading to corruption,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The president said that the Belarusian anti-corruption legislation is one of the toughest in terms of punishment. Anti-corruption efforts are systematic, their results are as open as possible.
“However, as practice shows, not all people realize the simple truth about the absolute intolerance to bribery and embezzlement of public funds in spite of the toughest penalties. The scale of revealed criminal schemes is quite alarming and requires additional measures against such situations from us,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The president reiterated that efficient preventive measures are needed, especially in the fields where corruption risks are especially high. This is the main priority for law enforcement and executives in all branches of the economy.
Apart from that, it is essential to nurture intolerance to all forms and manifestations of corruption, engage the general public in the fight against corruption.
“The demand for justice has always been and is still high in our society. I have already cited Russia, Ukraine, other neighboring and western countries as an example where only one word – justice – is written on the banners of protesters. This fight for justice has been a priority since the very first days of my presidency. As far as you can see, this thesis is in-demand today like never before,” Aleksandr Lukashenko concluded.More about President
