MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – There are a number of promising avenues in Belarus-Russia manufacturing cooperation. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in his Address to the nation and the parliament on 31 March, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Much more attention should be paid to the fulfillment of economic programs of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. They are designed to support a unified system of priorities of development of the scientific and technical space of our countries. Today we successfully work in the sphere of space technologies, healthcare, biotechnologies, mechanical engineering, laser equipment, microelectronics, agribusiness technologies. It is high time we stopped using someone else's nuts and bolts and start making truly our own products. Including products of the Union State.”
The market of automobile components alone for manufacturing transport vehicles, which were imported to Belarus and Russia in 2021, totaled $19 billion. “But we have the appropriate competences. We have the relevant factory and we can expand this business. Why are we doing it slowly? $19 billion! It is a huge niche for our enterprises,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
The president also said that there are plans to launch about 15 projects with Russian partners in the mechanical engineering industry. The projects will have an effect on investments and manufacturing cooperation. “Matters concerning their financing have been addressed but we are working slowly. We will make a broad range of products starting with highly intellectual microchips for haul trucks and agricultural machines,” he shared the plans.
Aleksandr Lukashenko drew attention to aircraft manufacturing, which is being actively revived in Russia now. And there are two large plants in Belarus. “Russia is intent on localizing the production of its aviation equipment over there. Feel free to offer your products to Russians. Moreover, examples of successful manufacturing cooperation in aircraft engineering are already available: we make nearly 500 parts for Russian aircraft,” the head of state noted.
