New Minsk mayor appointed

MINSK, 3 September (BelTA) – Vladimir Kukharev, who served at the post of the vice premier, has been appointed Mayor of Minsk. The Belarusian head of state made the corresponding personnel decision on 3 September, BelTA has learned.

The president said that Vladimir Kukharev knows Minsk well and has worked in the relevant executive positions: “People know him very well. He is a young, promising and already experienced person. Minsk is a capital city, and one needs to work hard here.”

“He also learned what it means to work in the government. It is also a good experience. He will be transferred to the Minsk City Hall. He is well known to Minsk residents and the City Council deputies,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova, who is the Presidential Envoy for Minsk, also attended the appointment. “I think you help and advice will be needed at first. But do not interfere in any way please. You are responsible for Minsk. You are the Presidential Envoy for Minsk. You are a very energetic and responsible person. It was you who recommended me this candidacy, and you did it long time ago, even before [former Minsk Mayor] Anatoly Sivak was appointed,” said the Belarusian leader.
