Naryshkin comments on meeting with Lukashenko

MINSK, 22 October (BelTA) - Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Sergey Naryshkin shared the details of the meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko as he talked to the media afterwards, BelTA has learned.

Sergey Naryshkin noted that the conversation was thorough and focused on the allied relations and the concentration of efforts on security issues.

The strengthening of cooperation in different areas, not only between the special services, was also discussed.

Certain issues of cooperation between the special services will be considered during the joint meeting of the boards of the KGB and SVR on 22 October. "This has become a traditional instrument of our interaction between the two special services. We hold such meetings every year to sum up the results of work in previous periods and make up joint plans for the future," Sergey Naryshkin said.

At the request of journalists, he elaborated on the results of the work of the two special services and outlined the promising areas of cooperation, noting that not all results "can be presented to the public" due to the specifics of their work. “In recent years, we have significantly engaged the analytical potential of our services and help each other. Together we are preparing comprehensive documents with an analysis of the development of the situation in this or that hot spot of the world," he said. The analytical materials on threats to the interests of both states are prepared on the basis of operational and intelligence information gathered by the SVR and the KGB. “In addition, we exchange operational and intelligence information regarding the prevention and counteracting of international terrorism. We are interested in everything that relates to the transit of terrorists, financial channels, plans, plots developed by terrorist organizations, individual groups, the plans they are hatching in relation to Belarus, the Russian Federation. This is an area of very active cooperation,” the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service said.

He also mentioned the cooperation in education and training at the Russian Academy of Foreign Intelligence and the SVR center for retraining and professional development.
