Mismanagement, sloppiness blamed for poor results in Belarusian sport

MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – Mismanagement and sloppiness are at the root of the problems in Belarusian sport, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus on 19 November, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that no country pays as much attention to sports as Belarus. These issues are dealt with at various levels: in sport federations and in the government. Belarusian sport, the president believes, has two problems: Mismanagement and sloppiness.

“I do not understand what else we need to do. The head of the President Administration will always respond to any request. The deputy prime minister is aware of his responsibility. I do not know what else we need to do in terms of organization and what more support you need," the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that there are talented athletes and coaches in Belarus. In his opinion, it is time to act and train the teams in the most serious way rather than place hopes on some prospects which have been talked about for many years.

“We all bear responsibility. But remember one thing: people do not want to look into things. They think the president is behind everything, be it a good or bad event. This is why I say: if there are results, we will continue to work with you. If there are no results, then you must give way to others,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
