Minsk authorities urged to step up efforts against bureaucracy, corruption

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) - Minsk authorities should step up efforts against bureaucracy and corruption, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the meeting with Minsk authorities on 20 December, BelTA informs.

“You should join efforts with the Belarus President Administration to decide who you will work with, especially at organizations subordinate to the Minsk City Hall,” Alexander Lukashenko said. “You should step up efforts against bureaucracy and corruption because one thing causes the other.”

He stressed that high-profile corruption cases involving civil servants of various levels undermine the authority of the city government and cast suspicion on honest people. “Corruption is the biggest injustice and rust destroying everything. There have been enough cases in Minsk. You know how many Minsk businessmen and civil servants are now in prison. I do not want it to be the case,” the president remarked.

“We need to form an efficient apparatus of the Minsk City Hall. Do not fire anyone, and do not keep people with a damaged reputation who do not want to work,” the head of state said. “Special attention should be drawn to the selection and distribution of personnel in the industries of paramount importance for the city. We need such people who will be able to ensure sustainable social and economic development, promptly respond to changes in conditions for the population.”

Alexander Lukashenko severely criticized the operation of Minsk City Hall. “I cannot accept the way you work. This is the main reason for the today's meeting, not the new Minsk mayor,” he explained.
