Lukashenko's meeting with Ukrainian mass media seen as opportunity for open dialogue

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko is holding a meeting with representatives of Ukrainian mass media on 26 September, BelTA has learned.

Taking part in the press conference are representatives of the information agencies Ukrinform, Interfax-Ukraine, TV channels Ukraine, 112 Ukraine and 1+1 and the Uryadovy Courier newspaper.

“Unfortunately, it is for the first time that we meet in the format of direct dialogue with representatives of such large Ukrainian mass media. This is a good practice, and I would like to turn it into a tradition. First, I learn a lot from you about the current situation in Ukraine. On the other hand, I have an opportunity to express my opinion on the fundamental aspects of our relations without any buzz and insinuations,” the president said. “At this meeting you represent not only Ukrainian mass media but also the entire Ukrainian nation. For us this meeting is an opportunity for open and sincere dialogue.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that Belarusians and Ukrainians have common historical, spiritual and familial roots. And the two nations just cannot lose this unity. “We must preserve this Slavonic kindred for future generations. We must pass it to our children for the sake of peace and stability in our countries,” the head of state is convinced. “We have always felt the support of each other regardless of any shocks that we faced in the course of time. But we know that we can cope with all difficulties together and find solutions for the benefit of our countries and peoples.”

The president remarked that Ukraine is a crucial partner for Belarus, one of the country's key trade and economic partners, and for this reason the relations with this country have always been a priority for Belarus. Belarus and Ukraine cooperate in a wide range of areas, such as international security, economy and trade, culture, science, sport, the humanitarian field. And all this areas are very important, Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
