Lukashenko: West accuses Belarus of smuggling but hushes up problem of drug trafficking from Europe

MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) - The West accuses Belarus of smuggling, but hushes up the problem of drug trafficking from Europe, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he received a report from Chairman of the State Customs Committee Vladimir Orlovsky, BelTA has learned.

The head of state inquired about the results the State Customs Committee in law enforcement. He drew special attention to the fight against drug trafficking.

“The West is always accusing us of smuggling, illegal migration, other problems. They, however, say nothing about the problems emanating from Europe, especially the problem of drug trafficking. They keep silent about this because such things would discredit them,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

As of 27 August the State Customs Committee detected 335 facts of illegal movement of drug trafficking (207 such cases in the same period of 2020). More than 433kg of drugs were seized, which was five times more than in the previous year.
