Lukashenko: We should be the masters of our own destiny

ROGACHEV DISTRICT, 13 August (BelTA) – The essence of sovereignty and independence for Belarusians is to be able to choose their way of life, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with residents of the Tikhinichi agricultural town in Rogachev District on 13 August, BelTA has learned.

“We need to have our own country in order to be able to live the way we want. We should be the masters of our own destiny no matter what period we are going through. This is the essence of sovereignty and independence,” the Belarusian leader said.

“If we retain our independence, we will be able to shape our destiny, decide in which state we and our children will live,” the head of state added.

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that Belarusians and he personally are absolutely peaceful people and are not going to fight with anyone: “We come from the countryside. We have never fought for no reason. But when someone took a rod to attack us, we would fight back. We minded our own business and stayed out of theirs, what on earth could send them [the West and some neighboring countries] so over the edge?! They simply lost their mind. They started blaming us for everything. They banded with our fugitives, these insane bastards who run from America to Poland calling for sanctions.”
