MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – It is necessary to rectify the situation when only two out of three national symbols (coat of arms, flag, anthem) are celebrated by state holidays, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he delivered his annual Address to the Belarusian people and the National Assembly on 31 March, BelTA has learned.
The president emphasized that Belarus' official national symbols are a kind of custodians of historical memory. “The fact that we have three national symbols (coat of arms, flag, anthem) and state holidays for only two of them, is probably wrong. We need to rectify this situation,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
According to him, the entire cultural sector should be involved in protecting the national heritage.
