Lukashenko wants higher salaries in regions

MINSK, 29 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko demanded higher salaries and their timely payment in the regions as he approved the appointment of heads of local executive and regulatory bodies on 29 July, BelTA has learned.

“Look at salaries. Make sure that people get decent salaries. Wherever it is not possible, salaries should be at least satisfactory, so that people know that tomorrow, under certain circumstances, their salaries will be higher. Salaries should rise. And not because we are having elections soon. People do not tolerate when such things are done for political reasons. It is out of question,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state noted that salaries, pensions and benefits are increasing little by little in the country. “People see it. Decision-makers should know that a salary is something sacred, this is the main source of income for our people. Therefore, salaries should be paid in time and they should increase,” the president said.

At the same time, the president emphasized that this year and the next one will be special for Belarus as the country runs two election campaigns. “We do not have party bodies, no Communist Party of the Soviet Union; in other words, there is no body that focuses solely on politics. Everything is in your hands. This situation has both advantages and disadvantages. I earnestly ask you: everything should be organized up to par,” the head of state said.

According to the president, the situation in the regions where the newly appointed officials will be sent is overall stable. “People understand us and support today's authorities. This is good and this is right. Therefore, you need to keep in touch with people, no pressure will be tolerated. Treat people with respect and kindness. You will be put to the test, so get ready. Look at the things that should be fixed not only in agro-towns, but also in district capitals. Here we have brought things into order and created new jobs,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that a fair and honest attitude to people should be at the heart of politics at the local level. “The demand for justice is still here and is getting more pronounced,” he added.

On 29 July the President approved the appointment of the heads of executive committees in Glubokoye District, Shumilino District, Zhitkovichi District, Korma District, Volozhin District, Lyuban District, Kopyl District, Gorki District, Kirovsk District, Krugloye District, Osipovichi District, Slavgorod District and the administration of Pervomaisk District of Bobruisk.
