Lukashenko urges to take doctors' health seriously

MINSK, 7 April (BelTA) – The protection of doctors' health should be treated as very important in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting in Minsk on 7 April, BelTA has learned.

The head of state noted that doctors exposed to coronavirus patients are adequately protected. “As for doctors treating cancer patients and patients with cardiovascular diseases, they are also exposed to patients who contracted viruses. Some doctors from there were transferred to infectious diseases hospitals. Therefore, your most important task [that of Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik] is to protect doctors,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

“It is not okay when doctors receive patients without gloves and face masks in out-patient clinics. Doctors should be at least minimally protected from exposure, so that they will not need treatment themselves. Doctors should treat patients, though we have to treat doctors. Thanks God, they are not dying, we are saving them. It is unacceptable when doctors are out sick,” the president said.
